Stop losing detailing bookings with your hands in a car
Detailing is careful, hands-on work, which is exactly why the phone beats you. You’re halfway through a cut and polish, or steam-cleaning a child seat that has seen better days, and stopping to peel off your gloves and answer means ruining your flow. So the call rings out. The caller wanted a price and a time, didn’t get either, and rang the next detailer down the list. Here is how to stop losing those bookings without dropping the buffer.
Your services are a menu, not a quote
This is what sets detailing apart from a trade callout. A sparky has to inspect a job before he can price it, so the best he can do on the phone is take down the details. Your work is different. A wash and vac, a full interior and exterior detail, a cut and polish: each has a price you already know and a time you can predict. That means a caller can get a real answer on the spot instead of “I’ll have to call you back”. The detailer who gives that answer wins the booking.
The catch is that you can’t recite your menu and quote a slot while you’re elbow-deep in someone’s back seat.
Why calling back loses the job
Most detailers plan to catch the missed call later and ring back. The trouble is the caller has already moved on. Someone booking a Saturday detail will ring two or three businesses and book the first one that picks up and gives them a price. By the time you are washed up and dialling, the slot you wanted is taken. It is the same leak that costs every mobile trade work, which we cover in why tradies lose jobs to missed calls.
Have your menu answered while you work
The fix is to have something answer in your business name, quote your menu, and book the slot while your hands are busy. Better Half picks up instantly, talks the caller through your services the way you would, and quotes the price and how long each takes straight off the menu you set once. Then it offers a time that is actually long enough for the job and holds it until you confirm. A half-day paint correction goes into a half-day window, not a gap between two washes. Anything off the menu, like a heavy restoration, comes through as a message so you can price it properly.
That way the booking you would have lost is quoted, slotted and waiting for you, instead of gone to whoever answered first.
